The Beginner Patterns Collection

The Beginner Patterns Collection brings together 7 fun leather projects that are suitable for makers who are just starting out with leathercrafting, though experienced crafters will also find them perfect for quick, satisfying weekend projects. All patterns are designed for 4mm irons, which is a common iron spacing in beginner tool sets.

Another important thing for successful first leather projects is that there are no more than 2-3 layers of leather to be glued, punched, and stitched together, which I kept a close eye on when curating the collection. You will find step-by-step assembly instructions written within the PDF file that will guide you through the builds.

Last but not least, we all know the beginner excitement to craft anything and everything, so I focused on a wide variety of leather items:

THE PATTERNS

The Glasses Holder

Dimensions: 15.6/7.5 cm ~ 6/3 inches

Skill level: Beginner

Leather: 1.6mm thickness (4oz)

Pattern specific tools/materials:

> 1 x snap button - up to 12.5mm in diameter (1/2 inch)

IMPORTANT: The holder will fit glasses that are not too curved and when closed the widest gap between the handles and the bridge between the lenses is not more than 3cm (~1.2 inches). Refer to the gap warning photo included in your download or the listing photo if you are reading this prior to purchasing the pattern.

The Traveler Notebook Cover

Dimensions: 16/10.5cm (~6.3/4.1 inches)

Capacity: 2 x 5.5 by 3.5 inches Field Notes notebooks OR 2 x 9 by 14 cm Moleskine pocket size Cahier Journals AND a pen

Skill level: Beginner

Leather:

> 1.8-2.2mm thickness (4.5-5.5oz), medium to stiff temper for the cover

> 1.6-1.8mm thickness (3.5-4oz), medium to stiff temper for the pen holder

Pattern specific tools/materials:

> 1mm, 3mm, 4mm and 5mm hole punches

> 90cm (35 inches) of round 2-3mm thick elastic band (1/16 - 3/32 inches diameter). Note: some of those 90cm will be excess that we will cut off at the end.

The Rudder Wallet

Dimensions: 10.8/6.5cm (~4.25/2.55inches)

Capacity: up to 6 cards and folded cash

Skill level: Beginner

Leather: 1.4-1.6mm thickness (3-3.5 oz), medium to soft temper

Pattern specific tools: 1mm hole punch

The Best Boring Wallet

Dimensions: 10.4/8cm (~4.1/3.2 inches)

Capacity: up to 8 cards and folded cash

Skill level: Beginner

Leather:

> 1.0-1.2mm thickness (2.5-3.0 oz), for the interior

> 1.4-1.6mm thickness (3.5-4oz), for the exterior

The Dory Keychain

Dimensions: 7/3cm (~2.75/1.2 inches)

Skill level: Beginner

Leather: > 1.4-1.8mm thickness (3.5-4.5oz), for the Top Plate piece you can use also thinner leather

Pattern specific tools/materials: 1 x split key ring (25 or 30mm diameter)

The Bulwark Wallet

Dimensions: 10.4/6.8cm

Capacity: up to 4-5 cards

Skill level: Beginner when made with 2 pockets or Intermediate when made with 3 pockets

Leather: 1.2-1.4mm thickness (3-3.5 oz)

The Heart Bookmark

Dimensions: 18/4.5cm (~7/1.8 inches).

Skill level: Beginner

Leather: 1.4-1.6mm (3.5-4oz), medium to stiff temper for the Base. 1.0-1.4mm (2.5-3.5oz), for the Heart.

Pattern specific tools/materials: 1mm hole punch

Basic Instructions

> Measure and cut on the outside edge of the lines. Print the patterns at 100% scale and verify the size using the Print Accuracy Test.

> Stitching holes in the pattern are spaced at 4mm, however due to curves and irregular shapes in some of the patterns, spacing might differ slightly at some spots.

> Selling or distributing the patterns via any means for commercial or non-commercial purposes is forbidden.

> Cutting dies (clicker dies) are allowed only through my licensed partner - Bradshaw Steel Rule Dies in Canada. Contact them on Instagram @bradshawsteelruledies and mention the pattern name to request a quote. They have all the files needed.

> Mass production of the physical products via any means is not allowed. Laser cutting is not possible nor allowed.
