The Halloween Bag

The Halloween Bag leather PDF pattern is a fun leather crafting project for the spooky season featuring a cute leather skull in the front of the bag. The template comes with detailed step-by-step assembly instructions accompanied by in-progress photos to guide you through the build. It includes patterns to make a leather strap in case you don't want to use a purse chain. The design features a no-sew gusset technique with hooks and holes for a quicker build.

The Halloween bag can hold your daily essentials - in the example shown, my daughter fit her phone, a small wallet, sunglasses, a make-up mirror, a chapstick and a lipstick inside. The bag can also be made as a handheld clutch if you skip the D-ring loops on the back and the strap altogether. Have fun crafting the bag and Happy Halloween!

THE HALLOWEEN BAG

Dimensions: 21/16cm (~8.3/6.3 inches)

Skill level: Intermediate/Advanced

Leather:

> 1.6-1.8mm thickness (4-4.5 oz), medium to stiff temper for the Body. You will need a leather panel that is 44.3cm by 24cm for the Body (~18 by 10 inches).

It will also work with 2mm (5oz) leather if you must, just make sure it is not too stiff.

> Leather for the Skull & Bones: 1.2-1.4mm thickness (3-3.5oz)

Pattern specific tools/materials:

> 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, 5mm, 10mm and 15mm hole punches

> 1 x button stud – 8mm cap size - for the closure. Alternatively, you may use a snap button up to 12.5mm in diameter.

> 2 x 20mm D-rings

Strap Option A: a purse chain between 100cm and 130cm long. Those are available in many variations online when searching for a “purse chain”. They usually come with swivel clasp buckles already attached to them. Given the theme and that the bag is relatively light, this option would be my personal preference. :)

Strap Option B: a leather strap with a buckle. You will need:

> 2.4-2.5mm thickness (6oz) for the strap. The strap is 20mm (4/5inches) wide and you need two pieces – one that is 48cm (~19in) long and one that is 90cm (~35in) long.

> 1 x 20mm whole belt buckle, 2 x 20mm swivel clasp buckles and 4mm hole punch.

Basic Instructions

> Print pattern at 100% scale and verify size using the Print Accuracy Test. Measure and cut on the outside edge of the lines.

> Stitching holes are spaced at 3.85mm and are 3.5mm off the edges. Note that the spacing may differ slightly here and there due to the curves and irregular shapes of the Skull and Bones

> Review the Assembly Instructions file in full before commencing with the build.
